If you have recently purchased a new digital camera, the Photography for Beginners course is an ideal way to learn both how to use your camera, and how to select the shots that will give you the results you're after. Once you've completed the Beginners course, then you can go onto the Weekend Workshop to further refine your skills.
Photography for Beginners Course
Learn how to use your Digital SLR
- Learn photography with a professional award winning photographer.
- Have photography explained in an easy to understand way, so that you can confidently use your camera.
- Find out how to use all those buttons and dials.
- Practical use and understanding your camera with plenty of question time.
- The class is kept to a limited number to offer individual tuition.
- During all practical sessions, you will receive professional feedback and advice
Course Outline
Photography for Beginners is a Saturday morning course run over 6 consecutive weeks. Each week you will learn new knowledge and techniques, and will travel to different locations on the Sunshine Coast to photograph different subjects. Each session contains plenty of practical use and understanding of your camera, with plenty of question time and hands-on tuition. Numbers are limited to ensure individual tuition and advice.
Requirements
- SLR Digital Camera
- Your favourite photograph
- Tripod is beneficial but not essential
- Model for portrait shots on Day 3
On completion, a certificate of attendance will be provided

Weekend Workshop Photography Course
Learn Composition
The weekend workshop is the more advanced extension to the beginners course, and takes your Photography knowledge further. The workshop considers composition further, revises theory covered in the Beginners course, and will bring all elements of your photographic knowledge together for the best results.
Course Outline
The Weekend Workshop takes place on a single weekend and expands your Photography skills further. We start by revising the concepts and theory covered in the Beginners course, and expand with composition and light sources. After a break for lunch (provided) at the Picture House studio, we move to Alexandra Headland for more in-depth composition of posing and lighting and hands-on experience with professional guidance and instruction.
The next day we return to the Picture House studio, review and critique the results from the prior day. After the provided lunch, we proceed to the Buderim Waterfall and take more complex pictures of the waterfall and surrounds
Requirements
- Previous attendance at Photography for Beginners with Picture House, or RPL (recognition of prior learning)
- SLR Digital Camera
- Tripod
- Model for portrait shots
On completion, a certificate of attendance will be provided
